Welcoming Millfields – an exciting new chapter with Taylor Wimpey »

An exciting new chapter of Lingfield Point is taking shape – a range of new homes will start appearing over the next few months thanks to our relationship with Taylor Wimpey.

‘Millfields’ – named to celebrate our historic links to Paton & Baldwins – is our next exciting step towards realising our £100million masterplan for Darlington.

Over the next 10 years, we’ll be creating homes, parkland, sports facilities as well as health facilities, shops and restaurants – a new neighbourhood with sustainability and care at its heart – not forgetting the continued development of high spec, creative business space.

In the link below, John Orchard, director of Marchday – which owns Lingfield Point-  is joined by Mark Leigh, Managing Director of Taylor Wimpey (North Yorkshire) who explains this exciting collaboration and our latest addition to our sustainable neighbourhood.

The Millfields development will include two, three and four bedroom houses in seven different styles and a range of special terms are on offer to help buyers move.

Darlington Cares and so do we! »

With over 2500 employees and over 50 businesses based at Lingfield Point, we’re always keen to look at initiatives that strengthen the neighbourhood feel of our business park.

When we heard about an idea to join with other leading employers committed to making Darlington a better place through employee volunteering – we jumped at the chance to become founding members and Darlington Cares – a town-wide initiative – is now alive and ready for action!

We’ve been told that our offices have soul – and this initiative is a perfect way showing this and getting many of our neighbourhood pals involved in an inspiring and practical way.  We think that combining our hands, head and heart (and soul) together with community projects that need support will have a massive impact on their success but business will also reap rewards through connecting with their local community and encouraging a great team working ethic with a morale-boosting bonus!

Darlington Cares will be working with local charities and community projects to build an engaging and coordinated volunteering programme that addresses Darlington’s community needs, particularly in areas of disadvantage.

Darlington Cares with their Secret Santa appeal.

The Darlington campus of Teesside University is hosting the initiative including Programme Manager, Katie Blundell, who is working on the initial programme of activities, including a Secret Santa scheme for the borough’s looked after children in care.

Katie says: ‘we will be rolling out a full programme of activity for 2013, consisting of annual schemes and team challenges. Not only will these activities make a real difference to the local community, but they also offer positive benefits for employers and their employees through skills development and team building opportunities.’

We’re proud to be associated with this caring and thoughtful initiative but if you want to be involved in Darlington Cares or any charity and community groups who would like to discuss the possibility of a project should contact Katie direct on 01642 738970, email: k.blundell@tees.ac.uk.

Buy Local is Best (again!) »

We are pleased to announce that the ‘BUY LOCAL’ business expo exhibition is returning to Darlington! As one of the founding members of the event, Lingfield Point, Darlington, are thrilled to be offering our support to the ‘BUY LOCAL’ scheme.

The event is organised by Darlington Business Club and will be hosted at Darlington College on Wednesday October 31 2012 from 10am until 4pm.

The ethos of the ‘BUY LOCAL’ scheme very similarly echoes ours here at Lingfield Point. The aim is to encourage all LOCAL businesses in the Darlington area to turn to local companies to fulfil their goods and service needs.

Exhibitors will include BIB Insurance, Darlington Borough Council, Sherwoods, Barclaycard and NEPO; all local goods and service providers demonstrating the real economic, social and environment benefits to Darlington as a whole.

As our business park provides award-winning office space for over 50 companies, both international and local, we can safely say we practice what we preach. Whenever we can ‘BUY LOCAL’ we do so, demonstrating our support of the local community and our high regards for the entire ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ initiative.

With our most recent customer being the global engineering firm AMEC, making hay in Meadow, we know it is vital to promote and introduce local connections know matter what the size of your company to ensure capital is safely circulating in the Darlington and district economy.

Our ‘offices with soul’ don’t just provide unique recycled office space to thousands of customers but also a lifestyle.

Lingfield Life is part and parcel of the package we sell and with a new bus route cruising through our neighbourhood and dozens of events promoting local businesses we are delighted to again be supporting a scheme that is so close to our own sentimental values.

So, make it a date in your diary and get supporting your local businesses

-          You’ll soon be reaping the benefits of ‘BUYING LOCAL

Lingfield Rocks! »

In celebration of AMEC’s arrival here at Lingfield Point, Darlington, we decided what better way to spread around some triumphant love than in the shape of delicious spearmint-flavoured rock!

Tah-dah! The finished products..

As unique office space providers in Darlington we are always looking for new exciting customers to welcome into our neighbourhood. Needless to say we were thrilled to seal the deal with the global engineering firm, with the 500+ employees making home in our Meadow.

We pride ourselves on our service standards to all of the 50+ businesses based here at Lingfield Point, Darlington, so we decided a celebratory gift was in order – and who wouldn’t appreciate a rockin’ welcome into Lingfield Life with a delicious stick of seaside rock?!

Not only did we have the chance to add our unique touch by stamping Lingfield Life through the middle of the confectionary, but I was also able to travel down to John Bull Confectioners in Bridlington, to get fully involved in the rock-making process, watching our very own rock being boiled, rolled, wrapped and boxed!

Ready to escape from the rain into the factory!

I spent the morning enjoying the seaside ‘sunshine’ and drinking in local sights, tasting a cheeky bit of ice cream, fluttering my 2ps on the slot machines in the games arcade and – of course – enjoying good old fish and chips for lunch!

Watching the Lingfield Life rock being made was fascinating. Topped with a not-so flattering hair net, I was lucky enough to be allowed inside the factory and get up close to the brilliant rock-making process, lasting around 20-30 minutes from start to finish.

I managed to film sneaky snippets and snap key points of the skilled rock makers working, as they boiled the sugar and glucose in a large copper pan, poured some the mixture onto a cooling slab and coloured it either red, white or Lingfield-Green!

Rock and Rollin'...

The white-coloured candy was stretched, aerated and flavoured with spearmint on a ‘pulling machine’, then used for both the centre of the rock and layered with the red-coloured candy to become to ‘Lingfield Life’ lettering.

Soon the letters, soft white central candy and Lingfield-Green casing are all wrapped together to form a jumbo tube of ‘Lingfield Life’ rock, before being popped into the ‘batch roller’ where they are stretched, thinned out, cut and wrapped.

All in all, a fascinating day in the bustling

factory, witnessing the creation of little sticks of Lingfield Life.

So look out for how you can get your hands on your very own stick of  Lingfield Life rock to sweeten up your day!

Laughter at Lingfield Point

Customer service does not just stop at the pleasantries of your surroundings but also about the ability to raise a smile and giggle with your colleagues providing a contented working environment.

An interesting article on Bdaily Business Network highlighted that the most effective workplace relationship builder is in fact with your boss: http://bdaily.co.uk/news/lifestyle/09-07-2012/employees-want-a-laugh-with-bosses/

Research from www.officebroker.com showed that employees really want their employer to have a good sense of humour with more than 150 out of 600 employees choosing a ‘sense of humour’ as the top boss trait.

Enjoying Lingfield Life with Al Fresco Dining!

A spokesman from officebroker.com commented: “As workers are pushed to do more demanding and time-consuming roles it’s becoming increasingly important that they can share a joke with their boss in a bid to increase their enjoyment of the working day.”

We believe that surrounding yourself with humorous, light-hearted fun can lift your mood and conquer most stresses a working day can throw at you.

Fun and laughter are two big aspects of Lingfield Life as we firmly believe providing a relaxed but focused working environment can boost employee motivation and therefore achieve the best results and meet targets.

So come on bosses (and employees) ….

step out from behind your desk for a moment and get giggling!

The Power of Art WILL Make A Difference to Your Workplace! »

Lingfield Point is well-known for its love of art and businesses that take office space here appreciate the difference art can make when brightening up a neighbourhood.

We believe that customers needing office space in Darlington choose our business park – not just for the location but for the quality of life – our neighbourhood is well-known for its culture and character.  Art plays a major role in our culture with a positive impact on our 2000+ employees based here.

Sharing this enthusiasm is something we enjoy and we love the fact that art is celebrated (and treasured) across the Tees Valley.

One of our favourite places for inspiration is the exciting, contemporary location, mima, where their outreach schemes for both business and bods alike simply takes our breath away.

Mima (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) is a gallery of modern and contemporary art based in the North-East in Middlesbrough and they are offering a new opportunity to have original, gallery-quality art on your walls with their new collection loans scheme. This opportunity allows you to borrow contemporary, original artwork for your space –whether public or private.

They believe that hanging their original mima art upon your walls in your building sends all the right messages to your clients, staff and anyone else entering neighbourhood. This is due to their art speaking volumes about your company’s ethical values and high aspirations.

So, mima‘s original artwork is not just a pretty picture.

Our Futurescope 'Lamb', an exampe of art here at Lingfield Point

Mima suggest having their art in your building states that you care for the environment you work in, you want to invest in your staff’s development, you value creativity and innovation and your organisation supports mima, a colourful institution that is making a difference to the local economy.

It is evident that mima’s ethical and creative values intertwine with many of ours here at Lingfield Point.

Mima believe in the power of great art to inspire change and make a positive contribution to people’s lives.  The power of art will make a difference to your organisation by giving you new opportunities to engage with your clients, staff and guests on a range of topics, other than core business.

Why Should YOU Choose Darlington? »

Here at Lingfield Point we are always excited to welcome new faces into our charismatic and character-filled neighbourhood, providing unique office space for any businesses making the move to Darlington.

So when we discovered that recent Census readings have highlighted a rapid growth in the population figures, with the largest population growth existing within our very own Darlington (a whopping 7.9% increase between 2001 and 2011!), we were thrilled as this can only be beneficial to our local area.

So why have 7,700 people chosen Darlington?  Great education, great career opportunities, great community; who wouldn’t want to make a home here?!

The Colourful Town Centre, Darlington.

Here at Lingfield Point we believe our ‘Offices With Soul’ demonstrate perfectly how we promote a different quality of life at work within Darlington. It’s a busy, family-friendly town which adapts to any age and situation – ideal for whatever you’re after in a home and base.

Not only is Darlington evidently the fastest growing town within the North East but also, we think, the best! Our town encourages a happy, friendly lifestyle – both at work and play – and we really look to encourage our youngsters to experience what local career fields have to offer them as they progress through education.

So when the Census also revealed that there are 10,300 more children under the age of five in the North East since 2001 (a ginormous 7.4% increase!) we are feeling positive and enthusiastic about what Darlington’s future has to offer.

Eddie Humphries, estates manager here at Lingfield Point, said: “It’s fantastic to see Darlington growing in such a positive direction! Here at Lingfield Point we take great pleasure in providing a welcoming and enjoyable community for customers occupying our unique office space and we can only view this surge in Darlington’s population as beneficial to our ever increasing neighbourhood.”

Overall we are thrilled to see clear evidence that Darlington is a desirable place to both live and work and where better to settle your business than in our unique, welcoming community and experience a bit of Lingfield Life?

Come on – inject a bit of love and soul

into your working environment – get in touch!

Bike Stop Want Your Unwanted Bikes! »

We really could not have asked for a better day when we introduced ‘Bike Amnesty’ to 50 companies with office space here at Lingfield Point, Darlington

Outside Alexander MacMurray’s ‘Canteen’ in the glorious sunshine we held our ‘Bike Amnesty’ event in conjunction with Darlington homeless charity First Stop Darlington.

Dr. Bike at the 'Bike Amnesty' event at Lingfield Point

The registered charity, launched in April 1997, are a Darlington Housing Action Group who offer a drop-in centre predominantly for young, homeless people providing housing advice and life-skills classes. Their most recent project, coming soon, is the new social enterprise ‘Bike Stop’ run with clients of first stop, young people and volunteers.

This partnership with First Stop Darlington is perfect for Lingfield Point as the charity supports upcycling and sustainability; both of which are greatly embraced here as we continue to regenerate contemporary office space.

‘Bike Stop’ involves bike recycling, refurbishment and maintenance. First Stop Darlington’s trained staff will be also offering bike repairs and training. In terms of the bike recycling, any unwanted bikes – no matter what condition – can be collected and then eventually sold in First Stop’s shop in Skinnergate, Darlington.

The ‘Bike Stop’ partnership is also looking for volunteers to come along and help out with both the recycling and refurbishment of bikes, getting them back to good health with a bit of TLC. Volunteers are also wanted to help in the shop and support trainees.

Donate Your Unwanted Bikes!

Any help and support is valuable and greatly appreciated!

So if you’re feeling bountiful contact ‘Bike Stop’ give them a bell on 01325 371793 or catch them on email via bikestop@firststopdarlington.org.uk

They are looking forward to hearing from you!

Loving Life at Lingfield! »

Hello! I am Rosie Whelpton,

the new intern here at Lingfield point.

Thrilled to have been offered an opportunity to be part of the Lingfield Point family, I was looking forward to begin interning and experience Lingfield life.  So many businesses have chosen to base their offices in Darlington – I want to find out why!

The first week of my internship kicked off with a whistle-stop tour of the Lingfield site. Marchday director John Orchard not only introduced me to all of Lingfield Point’s fantastic up-cycled offices, but also the extensive history that the story of Lingfield Point provides. Within Lingfield’s ‘offices with soul’ I discovered Student Finance England’s sensational, award-winning offices situated in ‘Memphis’ and the grandeur and luxury of Lingfield House beholding ‘Yarn’ and ‘Meadow’; a perfect combination of innovation and vintage splendour!

My first knitting lesson!

I have enjoyed lunching at Alexander MacMurray’s ‘Canteen’ where I stumbled across my first knitting experience at ‘Stitching Knitwits’, learning how to knit and pearl – not long til my olive-green ‘egg hat’ topped with a pompom is complete!

I have also become live, launching a twitter account from my perspective as a Lingfield Point intern. Catch up with my shenanigans and follow me at @LingfieldIntern.

My online activity continued as I uploaded images to Flickr of Lingfield Point’s most recent projects and events including our Futurescope ‘skep’, yarn bombing explosion and ‘happy fit camp’! Check them out at http://www.flickr.com/photos/lingfieldpoint.

I have got involved in Lingfield Point’s advertisement and organisation, creating posters and Magpie messages to advertise up and coming events including the ‘Celebration of Cycling’ and a special 2 for 1 offer on John Chapman’s ‘Dry Rot’ showing at Darlington Civic Theatre.

I have also thrown myself into the organisation of the ‘engineering excellence’ event being hosted here on the 13th July. This Low Carbon event is in conjunction with ‘Foundations for Jobs’, an initiative seconded to Northern Echo’s Business Editor Owen McAteer. The low carbon technologies promoted by this event are greatly embraced by Lingfield Point and I am excited to be a part of it.

So, all in all, it has been a busy but brilliant first week of internship and I can’t wait to continue enjoying Lingfield life!
