Turtle-ly chuffed about our latest customer – Turtle Beach makes a £10million investment at Lingfield Point »

As a great base for start-up businesses and global  giants alike, we’re delighted to see one of our longest and most loyal customers invest over £10million in their business at Lingfield Point.

Lygo International is making a £10million expansion after being bought by American giant Turtle Beach and will change its name to become part of the Turtle Beach family moving to a 120,000 sqft warehouse within Lingfield Point.

The expansion came about after the Chief Executive of Turtle Beach – the world number one in gaming audio – visited the UK from the firm’s HQ in New York and loved our life at lingfield.

Turtle Beach toured the North East looking for the best site for the company – and came back to the firm’s original base at Lingfield Point where they had been customers for over 10 years.

“The facilities at Lingfield Point are second to none and the fact that Turtle Beach looked around the North East and couldn’t find anything to rival their them proves the point”

We’re proud to be home to AMEC whilst they celebrate their 30-year milestone »

Lingfield Point is proud to provide creative office space to some of the most significant companies in the North East.  Our most recent customer to join our ever-increasing list of companies is AMEC – the international engineering and project management company – who enjoys its 30th birthday this year.

To celebrate this milestone, AMEC Chief Executive Samir Brikho was joined at the London Stock Exchange by 30 AMEC employees, all of whom have been with the company since its formation. The group included Kevin Catterick – senior project manager – who took some of the responsibility for the 500+ staff move from Yarm Road offices to the prestigious Meadow space at Lingfield Point.

AMEC celebrates 30 years by opening the London Stock Exchange

Celebrating this achievement follows on from news of a recruitment drive to employ an additional 40 skilled staff as part of a strategy to make its North East base at Lingfield Point.  Lingfield Point is set to become a centre of global engineering operations for AMEC.

Nicola Mason, operations director for AMEC in Darlington said: This is really good news for Darlington.  The skills and experience of our workforce has helped us beat some very tough competition to win a number of new contracts and we’re delighted to bring new jobs to the town.

We have settled in well at Lingfield Point – one of the key reasons for moving here was that we would have the space to expand.  The legacy of the Tees Valley engineering and chemical process industries means that this area has a lot of people with the type of skills we need so we don’t expect to have any problems finding the high calibre of staff we need.

Our colleagues based within AMEC should feel immensely proud of their part in this global success story – we’re proud to be associated with them and share in their achievements.

Well done AMEC from all at Lingfield Point and we wish them well and continued development over the next 30 years!

We’d love to welcome DfE – helping to save the local economy, the local environment and local jobs! »

Having launched ‘Rocket’ to meet the potential needs of Department for Education (DfE) – currently based in Mowden Hall – we think Lingfield Point fits the bill for both a North East base and the region’s carbon footprint.

We’ve worked out that moving 480 public sector jobs from Darlington would have a massive impact on the region’s carbon footprint.

DfE should consider their carbon footprint in the North East

Figures show that even if workers shared journeys to say – Newcastle – in a week, they would clock up a massive 96,000 miles – that’s four-and-a-half million miles annually.

And, according to carbon footprint.com when travelling in an average Ford Fiesta 1.4 less than four years old, that equates to 25.76 tonnes of carbon a week.

Equally shocking is the cost of the travel in terms of fuel for this base – £14,148 a week or £664,956 for a 47 week year!

“This is an ideal opportunity for the government to practise what it preaches and consider the impact of such a move.  We’ve got a great public transport system in Darlington that links into the on-site bus service straight into the town centre.”

“You simply don’t get any better – we’re convenient, cost-effective and conscious of their carbon footprint.” said John Orchard, director of Marchday – owners of Lingfield Point.

“When you look at the extortionate travel costs and the massive impact on the carbon footprint, it makes simple and sustainable common sense to keep these important jobs in Darlington,” said Jenny Chapman MP.

Transport is not a problem for Lingfield Point – buses pass the entrance every ten minutes, there are car sharing schemes, cycle routes and site is only ten minutes from the train station.

John believes that sustainable business park Lingfield Point would offer the ideal base for the DFE workers when they are moved from Mowden Hall in the town – due to the building’s poor condition.

More than 1,100 people have signed The Northern Echo’s petition to keep the jobs in Darlington, after warning that the town will take a £21m annual hit to its economy if they move away.

The Tees Valley Unlimited (TVU) local enterprise partnership has suggested a transfer out of Darlington will cost the town £21m a year – of which 70 per cent is currently spent in the local economy.

Still wondering if Lingfield Point is the best postcode for DfE in the North East?

Have a watch of our credentials below and find out why Lingfield Point is the best postcode in town!

So what are you waiting for DfE – feel the difference in Darlington!

Lingfield Point launches ‘Rocket’ that could save vital DFE jobs for Darlington »

Never one to rest on laurels after the arrival of AMEC – we’re excited about our latest office offer ‘Rocket’ – knowing that this exciting new space could be perfect for Department for Education – saving 100s of local jobs.

Lingfield Point welcomed AMEC and its 500 staff to Meadow recently and join Student Loans Company, NAAFI and Darlington Borough Council as major customers now based at Lingfield Point and with Rocket ready for blast off – we know we’ve got space to welcome further large scale public or private sector businesses here.

Rocket – our latest office space at Lingfield Point

John Orchard, director of Marchday, which owns Lingfield Point, says Rocket and a further development, Wool Lofts, are exciting news.

“These are both remarkable buildings – each is a landmark in its own way – and will fit in with our ethos of designing and creating ‘offices with soul,” he said.

“We’ve been working with internationally renowned architects FAT to create stunning designs that will take full advantage of their original features and ‘upcycle’ them into office spaces.”

Rocket is a 100,000 sq ft single floor plate building hewn out of the original wool factory building with capacity for over 1,000 people but can be split simply to fit any need. A dedicated entrance and piazza gives way to a high specification, open-plan office with raised floors and flexible workspace.

John said: “Rocket is ideal for headquarters, call centres and back office support centres and will offer a cracking combination of high specification office space and a delightful landscaped environment joining a community full of character and plenty of engaging facilities.”

We’re proud to learn that we’re widely acknowledged as a great location for both public and private sector thanks to the range of services and facilities now available.

Wool Lofts is another hard-to-miss building, the tallest on the 107-acre site.

John said: “More than 16,000 sq ft is available over four floors at Wool Lofts – totally self-contained – with a dedicated feature entrance and plaza and plenty of natural light. It’s a lofty and relaxed working space that can easily be sub-divided for efficiency, creating floor areas ranging from 4,300 to over 16,000 sq ft.”

The development of Rocket and Wool Lofts will be the latest in the transformation of Lingfield Point from the original Patons and Baldwins wool factory, into what will become a sustainable mixed-use regeneration scheme where people will be able to live, work and play.

John Orchard said: “Our success and the fact we are now able to move onto the next stage show that what we offer at Lingfield Point is exactly the kind of up-to-the-minute office spaces that thriving businesses are looking for.”
