Beehive ‘to let’ – we’re running out of honey! »

Following on from AMEC‘s decision to base their business at Lingfield Point, we’re now calling all bees!  We’ve a traditional skep beehive ‘to let’ and it’s ready for viewings.

Come and make some honey for us please... little bees...

Lingfield Point already has its own bee colony, providing plenty of honey for the busy business park. But Christian Barnes, the artist behind the Futurescope series of giant art installations at Lingfield Point, wanted to take that one step further.

Christian enlisted the help of Colin Hinde, Lingfield Point’s beekeeper, to match the impressive installation currently gracing the side of one of the site’s buildings by creating a skep to sit alongside the more modern hives.

At present a selection of tiered hives are used at Lingfield Point. This way the bees can take advantage of their natural tendency and build their colonies vertically. The skep beehive is more bell-shaped – and an iconic image to many in the bee world.

The beautiful rural property is available for occupancy immediately. . . Made from straw and suitable for a family of worker bees, this accommodation has beautiful surroundings and a host of lovely neighbours. The landlords are on hand for any maintenance issues and are able to help with the honey-making process.

With this beee-autiful estate agent’s description the hive is bound to be snapped up quickly, just like Lingfield Point’s award-winning offices, with scores of successful businesses and more than 2,000 people now based at the park.

Eddie Humphries, Estate Manager, said: “We’re sure the bees will be swarming in as soon as they hear about our fantastic facilities, accessibility and our very own concierge service that makes Lingfield Point such a great place to be based.”

Harvesting our liquid gold.... yum!

The 107 acre site is home to hundreds of bees and is contributing to the fight to stop bee numbers from declining.

Lingfield Point has been producing its own honey for several years now – and a new crop is ready to be harvested.

Can’t wait for Colin latest harvest – yum!

Life at Lingfield – Sewing the seeds of love for a blooming lovely environment »

WE’VE a great environment to base your business with great office space available in Darlington  – but did you also know you’ve got a great environment for your staff to bloom too?

Spring into Summer at Lingfield Point

With a great social calendar and employee support – including great transport links – we’re always keen to welcome new colleagues, friends and visitors whether its for business or pleasure.  Our latest events are based around preparing the ground for a blooming good Summer!

With our allotments now in place, we can now turn our attention to our herb garden outside of the delicious on-site cafe – canteen by alexandar macmurray.  Tasty herbs to garnish that add flavour to our lives are now available for people snip and enjoy – with recipes also available for inspiration in the vintage snug.

If you fancy creating your own home herb garden, why not visit canteen on 24 April where our gardening team from Integritas Landscapes will be able to give advice on how to create this simple little attention to life.  With delicious results!

Enjoy garden herbs

Adding colour and life to Lingfield is our simple aim and gardening is close to our heart.  We’re keen to hear your tips and advice on how to survive the last remaining frosts and the deluge of April showers….. Our tips include:

  • Keep new shoots protected at night
  • Leave tender bedding until May – its too tempting to fill your garden with colour now but Jack Frost is still very much around
  • Deadhead daffodils and narsissus, give them a liquid feed or sprinkling of bonemeal and then let them die down. Don’t cut off the leaves as they are necessary to replenish the bulb for next year.
  • Keep deadheading spring bedding to keep it looking neat and encourage new flowers.
  • Continue with the spring cleaning. Hoe your borders, getting rid of weeds before they take hold and continue to mulch away – tease with a cheeky bit of fertiliser to encourage growth!
  • Carry on removing moss and weeds from paths, terraces and drives.
  • Clean and repair your garden tools, perfect for Sunday afternoon when April showers hit!
  • Look out for slugs and snails. They love tulips and delicacies such as the delicious young shoots of delphiniums and the like, so use pet-friendly slug pellets, drench the ground around hostas with liquid slug killer to exterminate slugs below the surface.
  • Keep an eye out for snails and pick them off – what you do with them is up to you. Birds are your friends here – flat stones artfully located are useful accessories for birds to practise their snail bashing techniques.

With these tips and handy advice with our gardening team – get ready for a unique summer of celebration.  For more information or want a copy of our events calendar, feel free to get in touch with one of us at the management suite on 01325 486486 or download from the link below.

Growing support in our wider community »

Our allotment project ‘Gro-zone’ run in conjunction with Friends of the Earth (Darlington) is really starting to take shape.  Over 2000 people now enjoy office space at Lingfield Point and this initiative is a great way meeting colleagues and trying to grown your own vegetables in a stimulating and supportive environment.

Getting ready for growing again at Lingfield Point

Kendra Ullyart, organiser of this unique partnership said: ” We want to make it easy for people to take up an allotment. We know that allotments in general have a high drop out rate in the first year because people panic when they realise how much work they involve but thats why we have created smaller raised beds to let people just come in and start growing.

“We are trying to provide everything they need to make it as simple as possible.”

The initial 24 plots at the site have been filled, including a number taken over by community groups such as the Red Hall Fishing Group, which works with young people on the estate.

Garry Donald, 19, a youth worker, said: “I’ve signed up about ten kids to come and work over here and I know someone else had about eight coming over. It’s a good place for them to come and get a bit of exercise and away from the streets with all the messing about that goes on. Its a brilliant idea.”

Making a difference with dynamic ways of working »

Thanks to our creative office space in Darlington, our business community often feel inspired to find more dynamic ways of working. Only a few days ago, we held a great neighbourhood catch up with colleagues where ideas simply buzzed around!

Spring is making its presence felt at Lingfield

It’s not only our unique office space that can provide inspiration, we’re based within 107-acres of land brimming with art and  leisure. Mature gardens exist with picnic areas allowing our 2000+ employees  to feel closer to nature.

Always looking for how we can improve our customer experience, we joined forces with Integritas Landscapes last year.  Celebrating our first year anniversary of this unique partnership, we can honestly say this union has provided us with bucket loads of ideas helping creating our sustainable landscape of the future.

Outsourcing support of this nature is always a dilemma but we’ve been able to integrate new ideas with the knowledge of our existing team; introduce new techniques which build on our specialist knowledge of the unique gardens and land around the business park.

We see all our relationships as partnerships.  In this instance, the value Integritas has provided from ideas – bolting onto existing knowledge – has been great fun and we know that our customers will certainly be benefiting from the excitement created here.

Congratulations Colin!

With ideas come excitement and motivation and none more so than at Lingfield Point.  Colin Hinde,  our grounds maintenance professional has achieved his NVQ level 2 in horticulture through our partnership.  As part of the NVQ course Colin also undertook a first aid course and his Pa1 and Pa6 for pesticide handling and application.   We’re really proud of both our relationship with Integritas and Colin’s achievements – something we could never have delivered without Integritas Landscapes.

The maintenance and landscaping of our 107-acre neighbourhood is in safe hands which has allowed us time to think more creatively about our customer needs.

We love creating an atmosphere where our customers can relax; work and play.  This Summer, we’ll be introducing a wide range of trails around the park; masterclasses based around horticulture and even lawn games – thanks to the blossoming unique partnership between Integritas Landscapes and Lingfield Point.
