Bike Stop Want Your Unwanted Bikes! »

We really could not have asked for a better day when we introduced ‘Bike Amnesty’ to 50 companies with office space here at Lingfield Point, Darlington

Outside Alexander MacMurray’s ‘Canteen’ in the glorious sunshine we held our ‘Bike Amnesty’ event in conjunction with Darlington homeless charity First Stop Darlington.

The registered charity, launched in April 1997, are a Darlington Housing Action Group who offer a drop-in centre predominantly for young, homeless people providing housing advice and life-skills classes. Their most recent project, coming soon, is the new social enterprise ‘Bike Stop’ run with clients of first stop, young people and volunteers.

This partnership with First Stop Darlington is perfect for Lingfield Point as the charity supports upcycling and sustainability; both of which are greatly embraced here as we continue to regenerate contemporary office space.

‘Bike Stop’ involves bike recycling, refurbishment and maintenance. First Stop Darlington’s trained staff will be also offering bike repairs and training. In terms of the bike recycling, any unwanted bikes – no matter what condition – can be collected and then eventually sold in First Stop’s shop in Skinnergate, Darlington.

The ‘Bike Stop’ partnership is also looking for volunteers to come along and help out with both the recycling and refurbishment of bikes, getting them back to good health with a bit of TLC. Volunteers are also wanted to help in the shop and support trainees.
