Doing something funny for money at Lingfield Point »

With over 50 businesses and 2,500 staff who love to giggle and enjoy the lighter side of life at Lingfield Point, it seemed appropriate to be supporting Comic Relief’s Red Nose Appeal.

Customers enjoyed taking aim at Joe and Alex from canteen – our specialist caterer and on-site deli cafe operators – with water bombs and sponges – getting them back for the tasty treats on offer around our 107-acre business park.

Joe – enjoying a sponge or two for Red Nose Day.

And a water bomb for Alex….!

We even enjoyed welcoming our little lingfield-ers – our little people from our on-site nursery, Little Lingfields, who surprised us all with the direct hits scored.  They put us all to shame!

Our little lingfielders surprised us all with direct hits!

Well done to all involved, a great day and a good old giggle  – we’re loving life at lingfield!

Bike Stop Want Your Unwanted Bikes! »

We really could not have asked for a better day when we introduced ‘Bike Amnesty’ to 50 companies with office space here at Lingfield Point, Darlington

Outside Alexander MacMurray’s ‘Canteen’ in the glorious sunshine we held our ‘Bike Amnesty’ event in conjunction with Darlington homeless charity First Stop Darlington.

Dr. Bike at the 'Bike Amnesty' event at Lingfield Point

The registered charity, launched in April 1997, are a Darlington Housing Action Group who offer a drop-in centre predominantly for young, homeless people providing housing advice and life-skills classes. Their most recent project, coming soon, is the new social enterprise ‘Bike Stop’ run with clients of first stop, young people and volunteers.

This partnership with First Stop Darlington is perfect for Lingfield Point as the charity supports upcycling and sustainability; both of which are greatly embraced here as we continue to regenerate contemporary office space.

‘Bike Stop’ involves bike recycling, refurbishment and maintenance. First Stop Darlington’s trained staff will be also offering bike repairs and training. In terms of the bike recycling, any unwanted bikes – no matter what condition – can be collected and then eventually sold in First Stop’s shop in Skinnergate, Darlington.

The ‘Bike Stop’ partnership is also looking for volunteers to come along and help out with both the recycling and refurbishment of bikes, getting them back to good health with a bit of TLC. Volunteers are also wanted to help in the shop and support trainees.

Donate Your Unwanted Bikes!

Any help and support is valuable and greatly appreciated!

So if you’re feeling bountiful contact ‘Bike Stop’ give them a bell on 01325 371793 or catch them on email via bikestop@firststopdarlington.org.uk

They are looking forward to hearing from you!

Strictly Silver – celebrating 25 years of St Teresa’s Hospice »

With over 45,000 sqft of open plan office space all one floor, Meadow plays host to many events, seminars and summits, but nothing quite prepared us for the glamour of St Teresa’s annual black tie ball – Strictly Silver on Saturday night.

Celebrating the Hospice’s 25th anniversary and hosted by Sherwoods, we joined forces with our main charitable partner St Teresa’s Hospice to provide the venue for this very exclusive event.  Over 350 people attended and were served a delicious 3 course meal, enjoyed music from  Graffiti Classics and the Dean Solomon Band who lit up the dance floor till the wee hours in the morning.  Meadow looked respendent in sparkling silver and a great time was had by all – providing valuable fund-raising opportunities for this much-loved, local charity .

We plan a whole host of events, seminars, and working lunches to get our neighbourhood buzzing with activity and this month is no different; whether its free sales training; PR or even specialist conferences dedicated to the development of care.  Our approach is one based on friendship and care whether you’re an individual or business and our relationship with St Teresa’s Hospice is a good example of this.

A full report with strictly stunning pics will appear here soon but in the meantime, we’re now looking forward to planning the festive christmas cracker concert with St Teresa’s Hospice – always a sell-out with stunning performances from a vareity of different choirs in the Tees Valley  – tickets available soon!

Walking the Wall for Breast Cancer Campaign »

This Friday, April 16, Marchday’s very own Jenny Carr will be heading off to walk the Great Wall of China, raising money for Breast Cancer Campaign, in memory of her mother, Carys Carr.

Jenny’s challenge is to walk a 60km unrestored section of the Great Wall of China. Joined by 20 other fundraisers, Jenny will walk for five days, staying in cabins at the base of the Wall each night.

Jenny’s mother died of the disease three and a half years ago, after a long battle.  Carys, a mother of two, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 at the age of 43. She was to fight the disease three times over the next 10 years.

Jenny, now a mother herself to five-year-old Oliver, is aiming to raise at least £2,000 for Breast Cancer Campaign. The charity funds research into understanding how breast cancer develops leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.

Jenny said: “My mother battled cancer for 10 years of her life, forever optimistic and with real spirit. She took it all in her stride.

“I specifically chose Breast Cancer Campaign because its research aims to improve the way cancer is treated. Having cared for my mother I have seen how horrific the treatment can be for the person going through it.

“I wanted to raise money to help future sufferers, improve the prognosis and make the treatment less invasive.”

“We’re walking along a section of the Great Wall that’s steep, very uneven and crumbling. Add to that the humidity and it’s a real challenge!”

Jenny works at Lingfield Point for the property’s owners, Marchday plc.

Funding the trip herself this is the first time Jenny has ever undertaken such a challenge. She has been preparing for the Great Wall by running and taking her dog, Bertie, for long hill walks in County Durham several times a week.

John Orchard, director, Marchday plc said: “This really is a remarkable personal challenge for Jenny and we are 100 per cent behind her. She’s raising money for an incredibly worthwhile charity that will make a very real contribution to how breast cancer is detected and treated in the future. We wish her all the best, we’re sure she will succeed!”
